1988 Chateau Dauzac - Grand Cru Classe, Margaux AOC, Bordeaux
This classical dry red wine comes from the Margaux Appellation of the Bordeaux region of France.
The long history for Château Dauzac dates back as far as 1622 when it was originally established. The estate was sold in 1671 to an order of Carmelite nuns. Fifteen years later, a new owner purchased the estate.
It remained fairly stable after this initial period with different owners. During the 18th century the estate passed to the irish family Lynch (who's founded also Lynch Bages in Pauillac).
In the 1880s, the trials which led to the development of the classic, and used until this day, Bordeaux blend of grape varietals mostly took place in the vineyards of Château Dauzac. They were conducted by professor Pierre-Marie-Alexis Millardet, assisted by Château Dauzac's then technical director Ernest David.
The 45 hectare Chateau Dauzac vineyard is planted to 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot.
Château Dauzac is an outstanding estate with one rare peculiarity – its vineyard is one contiguous plantation. It produces unique, elegant wines from a vineyard that is deeply anchored in the gravel soils of Labarde in Gironde.
The history of Dauzac is made of men of vision and innovative ideas, which has enabled it for centuries now to express the essence of its outstanding terroir.

the 1988 vintage of this Grand Cru Classe is to this day still a fairly full bodied wine, with more dark chocolate, vanilla and cherry with hints of pepper and spice.
The finish has earthy notes. It is quite dry with lots of acidity and structured medium tannins and a full body - It's a real treat!
