The quality of Durfort's wines was recognised during the 18th century when Thomas Jefferson, then American ambassador and a future president of the United States, placed it directly after Lafite, Latour and Margaux in his fascinating travel journals.
His opinion was confirmed in the 1855 classification when it was ranked a second growth.
The vineyard consists of several plots, surrounded by vines belonging to Château Margaux. Like many Chateau's, the estate ownership changed from time to time.
Since 1937 the famous winemaking Lurton family has been at the healm of this beautiful property and Durfort-Vivens has been Demeter certified. This proves the current owners’ diligence to create great wines.
Durfort-Vivens is a classic Margaux using a traditional Bordeaux Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc and aged for 18 months in a combination of aged and new oak barrels.
At Blend Bistro & Wine Bar, we currently have in stock just 1 bottle of this beautiful prestige wine from Bordeaux.
Chateau Durfort-Vivens has an intense bright ruby colour.
The bouquet offers exceptional precision and aromatic complexity.
Initially spicy and peppery with notes of blackberries and strawberries and then aromas of black pepper and ginger.
It starts off very smooth and generous. Full and delicate in the mouth.
The excellent finish is upheld by the persistence of the mineral and spicy aromas.
