A Highly Acclaimed, Award Winning Italian Wine

San Polo is one of the most highly acclaimed wine making companies on the international wine scene, as demonstrated by the numerous awards won by its wines ... And it's Brunello Di Montalcino is no exception, winning awards from the most recognised wine critics year upon year.

San Polo is a beautiful estate located in the southeastern part of Montalcino, in the Tuscany region of Italy. At 1,300 feet above sea level overlooking the Sant'Antimo Valley and Mount Amiata, it comprises 52 acres, 40 of which are dedicated to vines. Twenty acres are currently producing Brunello di Montalcino, while the rest are dedicated to Rosso di Montalcino and IGT wines. The vineyards at San Polo were planted between 1990 and 2000 and the first wines were produced in 1997. All vineyards are sustainably farmed.

As for the Brunello Di Montalcino, it is produced from 100% Sangiovese grapes

The 2009 vintage, which we have at Blend Bistro & Wine Bar, is an intense ruby red colour with garnet hues and is clear & glossy.

The bouquet exhibits typical aromas of violets and small red berries. Subtle nuances of forest undergrowth, aromatic wood, a touch of vanilla and jammy mixed fruit then give way to subtle hints of coffee.

Brunello is intense, persistent, broad and heady. Full-bodied and warm on the palate, with a densely-woven texture and robust body, it has a persistent finish with well-rounded tannins. The particular features of the terroir at San Polo produce a Brunello with a capacity for lengthy ageing, while patient cellaring enhances the wine during ageing in the bottle.

The elegance and harmonious personality of this wine enables it to pair extremely well with highly-structured cuisine such as red meats and game as well as with mushrooms and truffles. It is ideal with matured cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano and Tuscan pecorino.
